We’re honored and excited that our Trailside Net Zero project made it onto the cover of the spring issue of Green and Healthy Homes! We’re very proud of this project because, among other things, it’s our most airtight home to date, with a shell test of .125 ACH50, more than 5 times better than the Passivhaus standard of .6 ACH50. This home is slated to be a net producer, with its 14.34 KW solar array predicted to produce 2,000 extra kilowatt hours per year. This is the of our best examples of our high-performance homes.
The whole article is worth a read, but here are a couple of stand-out quotes:
The Martins wanted their new home to be as green as possible. They studied energy-efficient building fundamentals and interviewed several Maine architects and designers before choosing Michael Maines Residential Design and Reggie Lebel of Emerald Builders for construction of their home. Both specialize in net-zero energy homes and Passive Houses. Little did they know that they had just hired one of the state’s building performance “A-teams.”
In their previous home, the clients “paid an average of $3,200/year in energy costs for that home. They expect the total energy use for the Brunswick home to be in the $150-$200/year range, and most of that is made up of the $11/month base rate they pay CMP to stay connected to the grid.”
We hope you enjoy the article and visit to our portfolio page for more information on this project.
